2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Change Comes After Poor Response
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a distinct direction.
The president noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to better meet community desires.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
This announcement mirrors a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”
With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a clearer brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to consideration and overhauled the title with a renewed goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its promise to our players.
The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the remarkable advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the new Studio Head of the team. After some time of discussions, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.
His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having spent the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in greeting him next week. We are all excited to persist seeing the development of the game in the time to follow.
The President
