The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

As any major awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories actually cover numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge game development, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
