Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in southeastern Queensland found themselves lacking electricity on Monday morning after powerful weather events passed over the region, generating strong winds reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Ice Stones and Broad Impact

Locals witnessed giant hailstones as large as 7cm in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that different parts across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to address the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, nearly 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also experienced power outages after Melbourne recorded its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services handled over five hundred emergency reports across the area, mostly for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

• The Werribee area - saw considerable storm damage
• Hoppers Crossing - various emergency calls
• Wyndham - over 175 calls for assistance

At the height on the previous day, in excess of 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Moist weather were forecast to persist along much of eastern Queensland this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

The following day was forecast to be the wettest day, with persistent severe weather risk expected across multiple regions of both areas.

Health Warning

Medical authorities warned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after historical occurrences where similar conditions led to major medical consequences in the area.
